House Tour, episode 1

 Welcome to my house! I can't believe that it has officially been one year since we packed up the Uhaul and drove it across country to Virginia! This whole year has been one crazy adventure filled with so much that is good! One of my favorite things about my life here is our home. I have had so much fun gathering and making pieces to ensure that this space is cozy and inviting. I want to share it with you! Here is a glimpse of two of our most used areas, the living room and the dining room!

 A few of the pieces in this space, I have created and that labor makes them very special to me. The lamp behind the couch is made out of an old lawn sprinkler that I found at a thrift shop and had a clear vision for. I love the way it turned out. I have recently developed a sewing addiction and have made a few of the pillows scattered around, including the heart one and the black and white one. I love the painting above the buffet. I saw a similar one on Pinterest that was in a gorgeous white frame but since I had an extremely limited budget, I decided to paint a piece of wood white, tape off a border, and make my own!

 Almost every piece of furniture in these spaces has been Craiglisted or thrifted and then revamped. The only thing I bought new was the leather arm chair that I am in love with. And even that I got at a deep discount from World Market. I hope you like these spaces and I am excited to continue to share my home with you.

What do you love about your home? I'd love to know.

Wish List Wednesday

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

5 // 6 // 7 // 8

1) I have been in search of a neat vintage globe for some time now. Confession: I just bought this one!

2) I love this wooden platter set, I kind of have an issue with collecting platter, but hey! you can never have enough right? And, also have you heard of Noonday Collection? AMAZING!

3) These boots/shoes!! I'm in love and I need them in my closet, Like Now!!

4) This ring is so simple yet packs so much character! Anthro can do no wrong!

5) I recently purchase a new (old) buffet from this great antique store and have been looking for the right tray/decanter combo to display my booze on it!

6) Tarpesrty, something everyone needs to own! I have been pining for one ever since I met the masterminds behind this concept in the lot at a WSP show a few years ago. Its a tapestry with a tarp on the underside! Genius! I definitely need to purchase one as we are approaching concert/picnic season!

7) Wouldn't it be nice to have a hot tub? YES! And since I rent my home, this inflatable one is the perfect solution!

8) These bowls are so neat! I love the combination of rustic elements and a pop of color! I'll take a pop of color on anything!!

What are you currently coveting? I would love to know!

Ornament Wreath

There are tutorials for this DIY ornament wreath all over Pinterest. I was feeling particularly festive and crafty the other day and thought I'd give it a go. Being especially frugal nowadays, I decided to use this tutorial from Watchout Martha because I did not have to buy a wreath form. I made some tweaks to make it my own like adding a bow and a mixture of gold ornaments. The whole project cost me a whopping $7.00 and I'd say it turned out A OK!! What do you think??

Dreaming.

Giddy On Up! The big move is approaching so quickly that I don't even know what to do!! So naturally, as I procrastinate packing, I dream of new house decorating. Mind you that we have not even found a place to live quite yet. We'll get there, we'll find one, and it will be perfect! I just know it! I am so excited to decorate, organize and unpack when we get there! Here is a sneak preview of the posts you will see Mid July (hopefully we will be settled by then, HOPEFULLY!)
Oh and PS: HAPPY MONDAY! Hope you had a great weekend!

The Best Sofa Ever.

So I am in the market for the BEST SOFA EVER! Let me tell you, I absolutely love my current couch but the time to retire it is drawing near. That poor baby has been dropped out of the back of a truck (and not in the "it was stolen" kinda way), and most recently subject to the extreme terrors that are known as kitten and puppy. Its been chewed up, stitched up, spilled on, shed on, and possibly even peed on! (although I hope not, GROSS!!!) I have had a good run with that bad boy but I think its time for an upgrade!!
These are a few of the couches that have initially caught my eye:

So I have three main requirements for THE BEST SOFA EVER! It has to comfortable, duhh! We love to snuggle up and watch movies, eat dinner, and do pretty much everything on the couch!! It is our living space after all! The second is that it has to be stylish, I have a pretty set aesthetic going on in my home so it must fit in with all of my current pieces. Lastly it has to be durable and life proof! I know, I know, that is kind of two requirements but they are also kind of the same thing. I mean this couch is going to see a lot of action and it needs to be able to withstand the test of time!! It will succumb to many dogs, many friends, and maybe even  a few spills!! Ill try to keep last one to a minimum but I have been called clumsy before.
Anywho, check out these six couches that I absolutely adore! Although not all may be practical, they certain are stylin!!

1.) Okay, this one is from Anthropologie. If I could afford to, I would probably fill my entire house with items from Anthropologie. This is their tufted ditte sofa.

2.) Okay, this one is also from Anthropologie! I know I should probably have been more versatile but again, I just love their stuff. This is the leather Winifred Settee.

3. This is from another of my absolutely favorite housewares shops, Wisteria. It is a reupholstered version of the French linen settee

4.) This is probably the only practical couch on this list. I looked at in the store the other day and instantly wanted to buy it! It is so deep, that two people could easily spoon with no awkward, uncomfortable positions!! It is Crate & Barrel's Lounge Sectional.

5.) I saw this on Casa Sugar which is an awesome website if you have never been there before. It is a pretty classic chesterfield, which is a style I absolutely adore!!

6.) How fun would it be to have a bright colored sofa!?!? Could you imagine orange and hot pink tribal ikat pillows on this baby!! I'm swooning already. This gem can be found at Room & Board. It is the Murphy sofa in teal.

Well now that I am drooling over all the these beauties, I am really feeling the itch to buy a new sofa. I'll be sure and let you know when I do!!

What do you think is THE BEST SOFA EVER?? Let me hear about your couch!!

These are a few of My Favorite things.

These are a few of the items around my house that make me happy every day. I have inherited them randomly from my journeys through antique stores, DIY Magazines, and relatives' garages. Look for a description of each item below. enjoy!

 {a random Ram's head}

 {some amazing vintage suitcases}

 {a tin hanging lampshade}

{some DIY bookshelves}

{an antique lantern}

{a collection of wooden pictures}

1. This Ram's head was a FIND if Ive ever found one! I found it in our local thirify shop and litterally yelled SCORE!!! I think I paid 7 bucks for it but it still had the original price tag on it for OVER 200!!! Isnt that some craziness!!

2. I love these suitcases!!! I got them at the most amazing antique mall in Dallas that is unfortunately now closed!! I use them as a nightstand and they have traveled with me all over. (not as my actual suitcase though) BONUS: they act as storage containers for off season clothes!!!

3. I think this "chandelier" hanging over my dining table is the bees knees! I scored it at a rummage sale, AKA mecca for cheap awesomeness!! I believe it was made in Mexico, its punched bronze and silver tin!

4. I needed good bookshelves for my living room, and I had a concrete idea of what I wanted them to look like. This is one project that turned out better than planned! I dragged Tyler to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and found and this amazing thick piece of weathered wood! I got it for TWO dollars!! We cut it down to make two shelves, slapped some brackets on and threw em up on the wall!! I love THEM!!!

5. How cool is this lantern?? When Tyler's grandmother was moving houses, we helped her clean out her garage and found this gem!! She was so kind to give it to us along with a bunch of other old camping gear. The camping gear has proved pretty useful but this was just to pretty to be thrown in our storage closet with all the other stuff!!

6. Last but not least is this arrangement of wooden frames that I always put in my bathroom!! The first is this fabulous old picture of a cowboy sitting in a barrel bathing, boots in tow of course. Then of course I have one of my fav pictures of Janis!! Also, a super cool mirror I found who knows where that reads "DAMN IM GOOD"! If these three things are daily inspiration, I dont know what it!!

Cheers,
Betsy
